Which girl doesn't want to stay forever young? Bouncing around, beautiful and confident? Menstruation, as a milestone in a woman's life, arrives around the age of eleven or twelve, marking our maturity. But at a certain age, it leaves "without taking a cloud" with a wave of its sleeve.
Many women view menopause as a sign of aging and thus deeply resist its arrival. Even young girls have started to plan ahead, seeking various methods to delay menopause, including consuming a large amount of supplements and medication. They feel that the later menopause occurs, the better. But is this the right approach?
Let's first understand what menopause really is!
Different Types of Menopause
Menopause is a physiological phenomenon where menstruation stops due to the decline in ovarian function. From birth, all a woman's eggs are stored in her ovaries, which produce hormones like estrogen and progesterone that control menstruation and ovulation.
When ovarian function declines, it means that the ovaries no longer release an egg every month, marking the end of a woman's reproductive years.
Menopause can be natural or artificial.
Natural menopause typically occurs after the age of 40 and is a natural physiological phenomenon.
Artificial menopause refers to the cessation of ovarian function due to various diseases, surgical removal of both ovaries or other methods such as radiation and chemotherapy.
During perimenopause, many women experience hot flashes along with symptoms like facial flushing, sweating, mood changes, and decreased libido. Some complain about their mothers or wives suddenly becoming irritable and temperamental with age.
This is due to a syndrome characterized by autonomic nervous system dysfunction and accompanied by neuropsychiatric symptoms caused by hormonal fluctuations or reductions before and after menopause, known as menopausal syndrome.
Menopause! Just hearing these three words makes many girls panic. I just want to be a "graceful lady," not a bad-tempered old lady. How can I delay menopause?
Is Later Menopause Better?
In fact, menopause after 40 is a normal physiological phenomenon. Blindly trying to delay menstruation can have negative effects on the body.
Research indicates that although life expectancy has significantly increased, the age of menopause has changed little, suggesting that the age of menopause is mainly determined by genetics, and the use of estrogen-containing supplements or medications has little impact on the age of menopause.
Therefore, estrogen generally does not need to be supplemented.
Long-term use of cosmetics containing estrogen or similar health products can backfire, increasing the risk of excessive estrogen in women.
High estrogen levels can lead to menstrual irregularities, emotional abnormalities, infertility, and increase the risk of fibroids, breast cancer, and endometrial cancer.
Continuing to supplement estrogen after the age of 40 may damage liver and kidney function and increase the risk of venous thrombosis, thereby increasing the risk of heart and cerebral infarction.
But when is it "exceptional"? Why can some women supplement estrogen?
In fact, their goal is not to delay menopause but to:
① Alleviate perimenopausal symptoms
② Prevent or treat related health issues
③ Significantly improve the quality of life for women suitable for this therapy
And they must follow the doctor's guidance and strictly adhere to hormone replacement therapy prescriptions, not self-medicate.
Menopause is a normal physiological phenomenon, an inevitable natural change in every woman's body. When perimenopausal symptoms truly occur, there's no need to fear; share and communicate with loved ones and friends. In fact, there are many ways to help women transition through this period more smoothly, and if symptoms are significant, seek medical help for necessary treatment.
We need to face menopause with the right attitude. Its existence is not synonymous with aging, nor does it negate your youthful vitality. Recalling those women on stage, we know that sisters in their forties and fifties can also shine with their own light.
True youthfulness is having an optimistic and cheerful mindset, facing life's challenges with a positive attitude. Good routines, appropriate exercise, and pursuing interests can keep us young. These are the real, safe ways to maintain a youthful state.
