During their menstrual period, women experience numerous changes in their bodies, such as unexplainably poor mood, menstrual pain, nausea, loss of appetite, etc. Some women feel particularly exhausted during their period, finding it hard to muster energy, which significantly impacts their studies and work. So, why do women tend to feel tired during their period? Are there ways to focus on studying/working?
Why Do Women Often Feel Fatigued During Period?
The main reasons for feeling tired during the menstrual period are significant blood loss and a drop in estrogen levels.
Changes in hormone levels in women's bodies are suspected to trigger premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Therefore, when estrogen levels are lower, women who suffer from PMS feel fatigued (PMS can also occur during the menstrual period).
Additionally, as estrogen levels decline, the level of serotonin in women's bodies also decreases simultaneously.

Serotonin is closely related to our mood and sleep, so low serotonin can also lead to women feeling tired and fatigued.
Some women have a high volume of menstrual bleeding, which poses a risk of anemia. Anemia means the body lacks red blood cells and, hence, iron, leading to insufficient oxygen uptake during physical activities, causing fatigue due to hypoxia.
To address fatigue during the menstrual period, it is important to maintain a balanced diet and engage in appropriate exercise to improve overall health. During menstruation, ensuring adequate sleep and rest is crucial.
If symptoms severely impact daily life, it is advisable to consult a doctor to determine if other illnesses are the cause and to receive timely treatment.
